One of America’s most publicized fad diets, the cabbage soup diet is ideal — for anyone who loves endless bowls of bland soup along with limited solid foods, that is. Touted as one of the easiest ways to lose weight fast, the plan claims to deliver 10 pounds of weight loss in just seven days … but at what cost?

Deficient in nutrition, flavor and variety, dieters often feel light-headed and weak while on this low-calorie plan. And nutritionists argue that the dangerous loss in calories (anything under 1,200 per day) is unsafe unless done under a doctor’s care.

Experts in the medical community agree that the safest approach to sustainable weight loss is by following a physician-supervised program, and to steer clear of fad diets entirely. Thousands of successful weight loss stories have been produced at The Center for Medical Weight Loss. The center’s trained doctors analyze each patient’s goals, lifestyle and medical history to create specialized diet and exercise plans, which are easy to follow and ensure lasting results.

The American Journal of Medicine reported that the Center’s average patient loses 11.1% of their total body weight in just 12 weeks, and that 95% of patients kept weight off after one year.

The one-week cabbage soup diet recipe relies on this simple premise: eat as much soup as you want as long as you stick to the permitted foods on alternate days. There are several variations of this cabbage soup recipe, but the basic ingredients are as follows:

Physician-Guided Weight Loss Program: A Healthier Way to Shed Pounds

Extreme fad diets like the cabbage soup plan shed water weight and are generally considered unsafe for long periods of time. Most dieters find that the pounds creep back on as soon as they stop the program and revert to their prior eating habits. The reality is the cabbage diet is another quick fix that fails to address the behaviors that lead to weight gain in the first place.

If you’re looking for a weight loss solution that is both safe and effective over the long-term, the physician-assisted programs at The Center for Medical Weight Loss have a proven track record in helping dieters achieve their personal weight loss goals.
