HCG Diet Protocol Includes Supplements, Extreme Calorie Restriction

The HCG diet has recently gained a lot of momentum among people seeking the best diets for fast weight loss. The program combines very low-calorie diet with HCG supplementation – either through injections, drops or pills. While many hail HCG protocols as revolutionary, others have struggled to stick with the program and have failed to see the kind of weight loss results promised.

What is the HCG diet protocol?

The HCG diet plan was originally created by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons in the 1950s. Dr. Simeons studied the obesity problem for decades, before taking another 20 years to design his HCG weight loss program. Reportedly, Dr. Simeons saw hundreds of patients in his clinic in Italy desperate to find the best diets to lose weight. Problems with the HCG weight loss program

The Mayo Clinic and the FDA have warned dieters to avoid HCG protocols when searching for the best diets for their weight loss needs. The FDA warned consumers that HCG weight loss products sold over the counter, such as drops and the more recent pills or pellets, are not legal in the U.S. The FDA has also sent letters to companies marketing these “homeopathic” products, stating the sales of such substances are illegal.

The Mayo Clinic has also offered input about HCG weight loss programs, asserting that while dieters may lose weight using HCG protocols, the loss is a result of a near starvation diet, rather than the HCG itself. In addition, the Mayo Clinic warns that consumption of so few calories can lead to a host of potential health problems, including an irregular heartbeat and gallstone formation.

While HGC protocols may lure dieters with claims of fast weight loss, the best diets are often those done under the supervision of a physician.
